Acknowledgements
There are a number of people and institutions that have helped
in the task of putting Billy Hoad’s diaries and recollections
online. First to thank is my Mother, Mary Prebble (née Hoad),
Billy’s only daughter, who has held on to her Father’s papers for
nearly fifty years since his death. Thanks too to Angela and
Nick Sexton of 'Hoads', Horsham. Nick and Angela kindly whisked us
about Horsham during a whirlwind two day visit there in September
2008, allowing me to photograph many of the places mentioned by
Billy in his diaries.
West Sussex Past Pictures (http://www.westsussexpast.org.uk/)
and Hidden
Horsham have also generously allowed me to produce photographs
from their collections. I have also drawn fairly heavily on
the illustrations from a couple of books from Billy’s own
collection: 'The Queen’s London, 1896' and 'Sixty Years a Queen,
1837-‘97'.
Thanks too to Sam Spencer (http://www.samitdesign.com/) for
his work on the website design and for his continuing assistance in
managing it.
