Those included either had responsible roles locally in the war or were involved in interesting incidents or serious crimes. People involved in overseas campaigns are included if they were involved in significant achievements or incidents (for example Prisoners of war (POWs) in notorious camps, receiving major gallantry medals, key part in battles). For definitions of major gallantry awards, we have provided a selection that can be accessed by the quick links to the right of this page.
