Tony Nurse
Tony Nurse was 3½ when war broke out and lived near Chichester.
He moved to Runcton with his family in 1941 and lived by the
airfield. He remembers the activity at the airfield and at Merston
Aerodrome, including preparations for D-Day.
Tony was lucky because his family stayed together. He talks
about his father being in the Home Guard and having a happy
childhood. But he remembers bad times too when his uncle was
reported missing for a long time and was a prisoner of war for most
