Jean Cracknell
Jean Cracknell was 15 when the war started and was evacuated
from Croydon to Hove with her school. She returned to Croydon in
1940 and after she left school she volunteered for the Women's Land
Army and joined in 1943, aged 19.
She worked on farms in Fernhurst, Walberton and Barnham until
leaving in March 1946. In 1945 she met her husband who was in the
RAF and stationed at Tangmere. She talks about her experiences of
the Women's Land Army, bombing and rationing.
