Altogether, over 2.2 million photographs and pictures showing
West Sussex in the past are held by the County Library Service,
County Record Office and local museums. They include unique
Victorian photographs from the 1850s, lantern slides, prints and
engravings from the 18th and 19th centuries, plus original drawings
and paintings.
Over 13,000 images from libraries and museums can be viewed on
West Sussex
Past Pictures and these include over 1,200 Victorian
views.
Around 5,000 of those images held at the
West Sussex Record Office can also be viewed online.
In addition, you are welcome to visit any of the above
institutions to search through original photographs and pictures
for particular places, events, scenes or subjects if you are unable
to find what you need online.
